Cleanbake Ltd (Resource Efficiency)
Cleanbake Ltd provides a refurbishment service for bread tins and trays to the bakery sector and supplies ASDA, Morrisons and Warburtons. The Skelmersdale-based Company cleans, refurbishes and re-coats old and worn bakery equipment and returns it to its customers ‘as new’.
As part of its continuous improvement philosophy, Cleanbake has undertaken a number of projects to reduce environmental impacts and energy use. Focussing on environmental improvements is a key part of Cleanbake’s commitment to provide a secure future for the company and its employees.
Newground provided support in a number of ways which resulted in Cleanbake focusing on reducing its energy, water, waste and raw materials usage by investing in:
• Upgraded gas burners in the curing oven diverting waste heat to a drying oven, reducing gas usage by 15%.
• A solvent recovery system which is reducing solvent usage by 24%.
• A high pressure water cleaning process which is a greener alternative to gas heated water and caustic tanks and has increased cleaning capacity by 40%.
• A specialist water recovery system that also removes solvents. Since declared operational all ‘waste’ water has been recycled - zero ‘waste’ water has left the factory!
How we made a difference
The significant resource efficiencies are allowing the Company to aggressively grow capacity and win new contracts, whilst the continuing improvement strategy means that these efficiencies will continue to increase. Cleanbake has seen positive growth which it believes is testament to the benefits of delivering and demonstrating a green business model.
