Kyle Clarke

Kyle was looking for a change of career with a move into construction, and was inspired to contact us after seeing a flyer for Newgrounds Skillsbuild Training Centre. He decided to apply for the City and Guilds Level 1 Qualification in Basic Construction.

As part of his training, he was delighted to be offered a work placement on a Chevin and Wates Living Space home refurbishment site, close to where he lives. He worked with electricians on the electrics in the new kitchens and bathrooms, which was perfect as he hopes to qualify as an electrician himself.

As a result of training at Skillsbuild and completing work experience on site with Wates Kyle is starting on site in January with YPH Services as an electrical apprentice. As part of the apprenticeship Kyle will be attending Barnsley College to achieve a level 3 qualification in Electrical engineering.

Kyle said:  “I have enjoyed working alongside qualified electricians whilst gaining experience in 1st and 2nd fix electrics. I have learnt new skills like running electric cables from old plug sockets to new areas and how to wire a single socket to a wall, thank you for the opportunity it was great and has given me the opportunity to see what is like to work on a live site.”

Tony Kilgour, Section Manager, CITB Construction Ambassador and Mentor to Kyle comments: “Kyle was always punctual, stuck to all of our health and safety policies and worked well with others on site. He has shown great enthusiasm towards work and has made the most of his placement.”
