Although Liam has had temporary work in the past, he’s struggled to find a permanent job. While at his local Job Centre he was encouraged to enrol on a pre-apprenticeship training programme at the Skillsbuild Centre. Through this he’s got his Level 1 Qualification in Construction Skills, Level 1 in Functional Skills and a CSCS card. Liam also had the opportunity to complete an 8 week work experience placement with Wates on their site on Gordon Place in South Elmsall. After gaining experience in a variety of construction skills, including documenting site plans, data administration and bricklaying, Liam has gone on to gain a 6 month paid employment opportunity through the Chevin Unemployed Tenants Scheme (CUTS) where he will be working on the Wates site.
Liam has been working closely with a plastering contractor on the Wates site and has been offered an apprenticeship opportunity when he completed his CUTS position in February.
Liam said: “I am so pleased to be back in work, sitting at home was really getting me down. Through hard work and proving myself I have gained a 6 month paid work placement and the opportunity to gain valued skills and knowledge. I hope to gain an apprenticeship to further my education. I would like to thank Chevin and their staff for all they have done to get me to where I am today.”
