Rhyddings Park Heritage Lottery Fund Project, Accrington
In January 2016 Newground were successful in securing £2million from the Heritage Lottery for the regeneration of Ryddings Park, Accrington.
This is a small historic park still in its original urban context as the garden layout, surrounding housing and mills were constructed by one family and now lie within a single Conservation Area. The park layout is surprisingly similar to that shown on the first Edition OS map and provides great opportunities for interpretation, containing most original features but many in need of attention.
Newground worked as the lead consultant for the HLF Stage 2 bid with officers from Hyndburn Council, mostly the Head of Parks & Open Spaces, Senior Parks Development Officer and the Conservation Officer for the Conservation Plan and also with the Friends of Rhyddings Park.
Newground 's design team worked on the masterplan for the park landscape with Hyndburn BC and the Friends of Rhyddings Park.
Work on the landscape contract was completed in October 2017, and focussed on entrances, a re-imagination of the sunken oval space into an amphitheatre style gathering and performance area, improvements to woodland paths, the parterre garden and creation of an orchard space, to invigorate the park and help restore it to it's former glory.
