Shadsworth, Blackburn - Community Clean Up

On Saturday 12th November 2016, a group of young people and residents took part in a community clean up of the park and shop area of Shadsworth, Blackburn.

The activity was planned and organised by young people from the Shadsworth Youth Forum. They organised for the equipment to arrive, promoted the event and helped out on the day.

Even though the weather was challenging, a total of 16 young people and 5 residents teamed up to clean up the park area behind the shops on Rothesay Road in Shadsworth collecting 10 bags of rubbish.  The young people were delighted with the outcome saying that the park is a much nicer place to play now.

The clean up took place just a few hours before a new football session delivered by Blackburn Rovers Community Trust began. The staff delivering the football said what a fantastic job had been made and how much effort the young people had put in to make the area nice and safe for them to play.

The activity has enabled young people and residents to have a sense of ownership of the area and has encouraged them to look after it, ensuring it stays nice for everyone. The young people worked well together as a team.
