Wardle Storeys (Resource Efficiency)

The challenge

Wardle Storeys is based in Earby and is a long-established supplier of the global automotive industry. The Company produces a range of coated fabrics for contract upholstery and the site at Earby has a components division that produces and supplies specialised components using vacuum forming, injection moulding and high frequency welding. Wardle Storeys was interested in improving its resource efficiency and sought advice from Newground to provide support.

Approach and solution

Through a range of site visits and assistance, Newground Consultants helped Wardle Storeys to identify improvements in the management of energy, water, raw materials and waste to save money, be more competitive and demonstrate reduced environmental impact.

How we made a difference

Newground’s assistance resulted in a range of projects through which the Company saved over 825 tonnes of CO2e, 231,000 kWh of electricity and 160 tonnes of plastic raw material. It also diverted 178 tonnes of waste from landfill. These successes were the result of projects including the use of a high efficiency motor for the factory extraction system, the purchase of a solvent recovery system, the use of variable speed motors for production equipment, and the recycling and reprocessing of waste materials including polyester, cotton, PVC rolls, surplus plastisol and plastics.
