Offshoots in Burnley hosted a number of UCLan students this Thursday 20th September. The students worked on various volunteer tasks throughout the day, including helping with removing some old raised beds and tidying up some of the other areas on site. As usual, the heavens opened and all the students were dripping wet by the time they had finished, but happy at their achievements when they left.
The day was part of ‘Freshers Week’ at the local Burnley campus of the University of Central Lancashire. Offshoots Senior Project Officer Suzanne Walton said, “It was great to have a big group full of very enthusiastic young people. We have been working with UCLan for a while now but this is the biggest group they have brought to us and we were able to keep them working hard all day with some fantastic results by the end of the day. We hope to welcome more students again soon. ”
UCLan Lecturer in Community Leadership Bob Walley enjoyed the day and was very happy to bring some brave students along despite the downpours. He said, “Offshoots is a fantastic place for the local community and to bring our students along to. The site is an incredible resource where our local students in Burnley can get stuck in and they certainly enjoyed putting time into such a worthwhile project. We hope this is one of many events we can get going with the Offshoots team and Newground, and look forward to a brighter future!”
Offshoots is available for group volunteer tasks. If you are interested in bringing your group please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
