A Lancashire charity that supports people to furnish their home affordably is increasing its opening hours after a rise in demand. Newground reuse, based in Pickup Street, Blackburn, will now open late night on Thursdays and on one Saturday a month.
The centre, which is funded by Newground, part of the Together Housing Group, takes unwanted furniture and repairs, upcycles or sells it at affordable prices, often helping people who can’t afford to furnish their home. The centre, which has been shortlisted for both a National Recycling and Enterprise in Society Award this year, says that since 2014 they have diverted over 1,000 tonnes from landfill.
Sara Knagg, Reuse Centre Coordinator, says the opening hours mean even more people can benefit: “Reuse already reduces impact on the environment, helps trainees and apprentices learn news skills and helps people furnish their home on a budget and, by extending the hours into evening and weekend slots, we will be able to help an even greater ranger of people.
“As well as home furniture, we also sell electrical equipment, flooring, household decorations and even furniture suitable for a small office.”
