Joanne Dootson has started with us as a Volunteer Engagement Officer at Rhyddings Park, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. The park has recently benefitted from a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) project which has refurbished the coach house and glass house, created a kitchen garden and made many improvements to the park on a wider basis including the restoration of many beautiful original features.
The project is a joint venture between Newground, Hyndburn Borough Council, Friends of Rhyddings Park, Bootstrap, Lancashire County Council and The Civic Theatre Arts Centre.
Joanne will be running regular volunteer groups in both the park and the kitchen garden starting in October. Local community groups will also have the chance to be involved with programmes of workshops being provided on a weekly basis.
Joanne is excited about the project. She said “The kitchen garden is a blank canvas, we have about 38 beds to get started with so there is plenty of growing space. Over time we hope to both supply the cafe, run by Friends of Rhyddings Park, with fresh produce and also have fruit and veg available for sale from the park.”
Growing is not the only objective for the new project. The park and kitchen garden are a fantastic resource for all members of the local community. The work Joanne will do aims to get lots of people involved and interacting with the park to create a real community hub.
Joanne will be hosting open mornings on Sunday 7th October and Sunday 14th October from 10am. Pop into the Park to say hi and talk about how you can be involved in this exciting new project and have a look around the new features. The cafe will be opened by the Friends of Group for refreshments too.
