Works Better helps Dawn to start again

16 April 2018

Forty four-year-old Dawn, from Hebden Bridge, Halifax, was tired of being unhappy, but thanks to Works Better she’s gained her confidence back, and has a new lease of life.

Dawn previously worked in schools as a cook and cleaner, but after a tough time suffering ongoing harassment and bullying within the workplace, she decided she’d had enough. Dawn visited her GP and was signed off from work with anxiety and depression and ended up on medication.

Six months later, Dawn was told about Works Better through her local Job Centre Plus and was happy to get involved and move forward. She was tired of being unemployed and just wanted to get back into work; sick of feeling sorry for herself.

Her initial meeting with Works Better couldn’t have gone any better. The team advised her on different courses that they felt would aid Dawn in her job search. An action plan was put into place and Dawn was signed up to a confidence and healthy minds course. The courses encouraged Dawn to believe in herself once again and gave her the skills she needed to get back into work.

After the next meeting with Works Better, the team noticed a huge difference in Dawn. ‘’I really enjoyed the courses and felt I got a lot out of them,’’ said Dawn. She started to reduce her medication and was open to any suggestions and training Works Better were able to provide.

Dawn first met with Works Better in November ‘17 and three weeks into January ’18, she had already secured a new role.

Dawn continues ‘’I’m extremely grateful to the Works Better team for helping me get my confidence back and would like thank them for getting me back into work.’’
