Rachel Street

Senior Project Officer

I have a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry and a BSc Hons in Environmental Science from Lancaster University, Forest school leader qualification level 3, plus MSc credits towards Community Work (Birmingham University) and Conservation Ecology (Lancaster University). As well as working as a Research Associate (Lancaster University), an Archaeological Project Officer (LUAU, now Oxford Archaeology North) and volunteer team leader with BTCV in York, I have subsequently been employed for the past 15 years with Groundwork/Newground as a community and education officer.

What I do at Newground

I deliver sustainable educational workshops with any age groups, from 0 to 100, from woodland/ forest school sessions, to more formal curriculum linked indoor classroom work, to recycled/woodland craft activities. Recently workshops have focussed on climate change, floods and flood damage mitigation, moorlands / peat as a carbon sink, and Forest School sessions for toddlers and primary age children.

In my spare time

I enjoy time out of work with my family outdoors, cycling and walking, gardening and growing food on our allotment and spending time on our canal boat.

Rachel Street is a senior project officer in the education and community team, delivering sustainable educational workshops, and community projects.
