The Newground Flood Team offer a wide range of flood resilience support to help individuals, communities and businesses across England to better understand their flood risk and plan for future flood events. As well as active engagement work, we also produce a host of online resources that you can download to help you become more flood aware and resilient.
It is important to take steps to prepare your household, business or community against flooding as it could happen even if you have never experienced a flood event before. There are many different types of flooding that can come from a variety of sources, for example heavy rainfall can cause surface water flooding as well as sewer flooding. By increasing your resilience to flooding and becoming more prepared now, you can reduce the impact of a flood in the future.
Our flood programme is funded by the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC), and we work alongside the Environment Agency and other Risk Management Authorities. We have delivered flood programmes for over 15 years, and following the December 2015 floods, a new flood resilience programme has been set up to further support communities at risk of flooding across the North West.
We support individuals, businesses and communities to plan ahead for flooding and increase their resilience by producing flood plans. We aim to improve the understanding and awareness of river monitoring information and other flood risk triggers to increase the number of people signed up to the free flood warning service. We also work with other organisations and agencies to raise awareness of upstream management and promote its benefits within communities.
Individual support
Through direct engagement, public events and community meetings we work with individuals to increase their general flood resilience, access funding and improve awareness of available products and services.
Business support
We provide assistance to business owners so they can become fully aware of their flood risk and the measures they can take to improve their flood resilience. We offer practical support to develop flood plans which outline the steps to take before, during and after a flood to allow for business continuity.
Community support
Our flood team help communities with the development of flood schemes, and deliver community resilience activities alongside risk management authorities. We work closely with communities to help them form community flood action groups, tailoring their aims to suit the specific needs of the area.
Resources
We regularly write blogs and produce resources to help people better understand their flood risk and how they can prepare for future flood events. Our blogs can be accessed on the ‘Blogs, Case Studies and Testimonials page’ here, and our resources can now be found on The Flood Hub. Follow us on Twitter @nwgrnd_flood here where we regularly tweet about latest blogs, resources and flood related news.
Commercial resilience work
Our flood team offer commercial work to individuals, communities and businesses outside of the North West, where we can advise and assist with general flood resilience and planning. To enquire about our services, contact us here.
Property Level Flood Resilience Surveys
We are able to carry out property level flood resilience surveys for both residential and business properties, helping people to understand their flood risk and the various flood resistance and resilience measures that can be implemented to reduce the impact of flooding. We provide impartial advice and are not associated with any product suppliers or flood resilience companies.
Our flood team worked in partnership with the Environment Agency, United Utilities and the Strategic Flood Partnerships in the North West to create a website funded by the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC). The website aims to help and advise individuals, businesses and communities across the North West on how to become more flood resilient and prepare for future flood events.
