Christmas coffee morning to plan your New Year's resolutions!
Newground is inviting local residents to view the new kitchen garden at Rhyddings and make plans for a more active and healthier 2019.
Newground Together, part of Together Housing Group, worked with Hyndburn BC and Friends of Rhyddings Park to secure a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund (BIG), to restore the former Coach House as a new community venue and undertake a range of improvements throughout the park.
The money was also used to return the derelict walled garden to its traditional use of food growing; establish a training and volunteering programme; and develop a social enterprise, generating income for the park from meeting rooms, cafe and training kitchen.
Now Newground is inviting potential volunteers to come down and take a look at the facilities available and find out how they can get involved over a mince pie and coffee.
Peter Jordan, Newground Together Director, said: “Everyone has worked tirelessly to transform the park into an invaluable community resource. Christmas celebrations provide a great opportunity to say thank you to all the partners, including Friends of Rhyddings Park, Hyndburn Borough Council, Civic Arts Centre and Lancashire County Council.
“The informal event on Christmas Eve is a chance to look forward to the New Year. Come along and find out what sessions we have coming up to learn how to grow food, check out the kitchen garden and learn more about the growing plots available for schools and community groups.”
For more information, come along to Rhyddings Park Kitchen Garden on Christmas Eve between 10am and 2pm or book onto any of the weekly sessions below.
